Commonwealth Fusion Systems | Wide Assortment of Roles | Remote & Onsite (Cambridge MA, Devens MA) |

Decades of worldwide, government-sponsored research in fusion science have established the tokamak-based configuration as the leading approach to confining fusion-grade plasmas with strong magnetic fields. Yet, in the past, even state-of-the art superconducting magnet technology required tokamaks to be enormous to produce net fusion energy. Recently, a new high temperature superconductor has reached industrial maturity. CFS is using these high temperature superconductors to build smaller and lower-cost tokamak fusion systems. CFS will build first-of-its-kind high temperature superconducting magnets, followed by the world’s first net energy-producing fusion machine, called SPARC. SPARC will pave the way for the first commercially viable fusion power plant, called ARC. CFS is assembling a world-class team working to design and build fusion machines that will provide limitless, clean, fusion energy to combat climate change.

NASA JPL | Full-time eng. manager (AI, team of 12-ish) | On-site (up to 50% remote), Los Angeles, CA

(this is my old job!)

It's an engineering manager position overseeing an AI group that builds tools to task agile satellites and instruments for NASA and DoD missions. There's a fantastic mix of math, algorithms, and architecture. There's a decent amount of traditional AI, and a little bit of ML. Also the team is fantastic, as is JPL.

Feel free to mention me or reach out for details.

HRL Laboratories, Quantum Software | Malibu, Calif. | ONSITE + WFH | Full-Time + Interns |

HRL Laboratories is one of the longest-running groups working on quantum computers. We are driven by a research agenda (think Bell Labs), not a bottom line. We specifically work with silicon dot qubits, a kind of qubit technology that uses ordinary electrical pulses to control the computer, making it quite friendly and intuitive to generalist software engineers (unlike alternative technologies with which use lasers, suspended atoms, photons, or RF circuits). We are a full-stack research laboratory, starting at the bottom with fabrication equipment in clean rooms.

We run ourselves as a professional software engineering shop, so no hacky Matlab scripts on shared Dropbox folders you often find in academic labs. Software engineers can work in a variety of domains, from the lowest level control software in C++, to the mathematical rigor of quantum compilation in Common Lisp, to experimental physics software scientists use in Python. We even have a team dedicated to internal tools, written as small, well written web apps, to help the various engineers work more efficiently.

We accept interns year round. We just celebrated the success of our spring internship, and our summer internship is in full swing. Seats are limited.

Tech stacks for different quantum projects:

* Quantum Compilers: Common Lisp, Coalton, SBCL

* Internal Tools: JavaScript, Vue, Node

* Experimental Physics Software: Python, NumPy

* Low-Level Control System: C++, cmake, laboratory instruments :)

* Infrastructure: GitLab, Artifactory, Conda

We try to write portable code. Most developers run Mac or Windows, and we deploy to Linux or Windows.

We have a straightforward 5-step interview process:

1. (Optional) Screening call with recruiter, able to ask questions about compensation up-front for the role and level you're applying for.

2. Talk with an engineer, high-level background and tech talk.

3. Take-home coding exercise. One of our take-home exercises is to tally the top-100 words of a text corpus. They are truly exercises, not projects.

4. On-site interview, no whiteboarding, no quizzing. You interviewing us is just as important as we to you.

5. Reference checks.

The positions are for US citizens and US residents only. Company has a baseline WFH policy of 50% time, but we can be flexible.

Either apply through the front door on the website above, or email me via my profile.

Software used: Smalltalk (Pharo), C#/.net (4.5ish) and core. DB Layer is MSSQL.

Hyperfiddle is hiring a REMOTE (USA and European time zones) UI platform specialist to help discover and implement pure functional idioms for fullstack composable UI. We develop Photon, a full stack Clojure/Script dialect specialized for reactive UI, that abstracts over the frontend/backend network separation with managed client/server datasync built into the language runtime itself ("UIs are streaming DAGs"). We implement the Clojure/Script compiler/analyzer infrastructure to compile Clojure/Script forms to monadic DAGs, distribute the DAG over the client/server distributed system, and then emit reactive dataflow expressions. (It's a lisp interpretation of haskell's Free monad, applied to web UI.) You'll be working on or adjacent to that. You'll also assist with "HFQL", our interactive UI modeling DSL that compiles to Photon. To apply, send your links to [email protected] (keep it SHORT) or DM me at
Spot | Full-Stack Engineer, 3D Engineer | Seattle, WA (US-remote encouraged) |

Help build your ideal remote working experience and join our mission to make online interactions more meaningful. We are building team chat 2.0: a streamlined work experience inside the browser that combines the efficiencies and utility of tools like slack and zoom with the cultural and human elements of a spatial experience. If you are interested in game dev, this is probably the closest thing that comes with a web dev salary. Our team is small, but experienced, and this would be a ground-level role that would provide an opportunity to help shape the technology and company in a really foundational way. Our founders are experienced and most recently founded a Seattle startup that has achieved unicorn status.

Our stack is Typescript, Babylon.js, React, Apollo/GraphQL, and Nest.js. Everything is built on top of AWS using modern tooling and automation (e.g. pushing a commit will trigger a deploy). We are looking for someone who has some familiarity in the tech stack and is excited about the space. This position will be remote, but the ideal candidate will be one who enjoys/misses many aspects of a physical workplace.

Globality’s AI-powered Smart Sourcing technology transforms the way global companies connect with the best suppliers across every service category. Spacelift | Remote | Europe | Full-time | Senior Software Engineer

We're a VC-funded startup building an automation platform for Infrastructure-as-Code, adding a Policy-as-Code layer above it, in order to make IaC usable in bigger companies, where you have to take care of state consistency, selective permissions, a usable git flow, etc.

On the backend we're using 100% Go with AWS primitives. We're looking for backend developers who like doing DevOps'y stuff sometimes (because in a way it's the spirit of our company), or have experience with the cloud native ecosystem. Ideally you'd have experience working with an IaC tool, i.e. Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, or SaltStack.

Overall we have a deeply technical product, trying to build something customers love to use, and already have a lot of happy and satisfied customers.

We promise interesting work, the ability to open source parts of the project which don't give us a business advantage, as well as healthy working hours. We've also got investment days on Fridays, when you can work on anything you want, as long as it could possibly benefit Spacelift in some way.

If that sounds like fun to you, please apply at

You can find out more about the product we're building at and also see our engineering blog for a few technical blog posts of ours:

PS: Fear not, no whiteboarding!

Global Income Coin | Software Engineer & many more | Remote | Full Time | Non Profit | $100k+

Global Income Coin is a nonprofit startup striving to give every human on earth a dollar a day of income. We're launching a new coin called GLO, intended to be used for payments just like the dollar or the euro. As adoption grows, we can slowly create additional money and give this away for free, to people directly.

Our tokenomics are the opposite of bitcoin. When demand for bitcoin grows, the price per coin rises because the number of coins is fixed. With Global Income Coin, we print new coins instead, stabilizing the coin. The new coins are distributed as basic income.

We raised a $2m seed donation from Sid Sijbrandij (GitLab, YC W15) and are hiring for a variety of roles to help realize this vision:

- Head of Trading

- Head of Econometrics

- Head of Community

- Lead Writer

- Social Media Manager

- Motivated individuals with a vision for how to grow GLO

Mux (YC W16) | SF, London, REMOTE (US, CAN, and UK) | Full-Time | Elixir, Golang, TypeScript/React |

Mux is how developers build online video.

With Mux Video, developers gain access to a powerful API for video streaming--think Stripe for Video. A dev doesn't need to have strong feelings about ffmpeg settings to get started and your team can focus on building your actual product instead of bolting together a video pipeline. Mux Data helps developers realize actionable insights into how their videos perform from platform to platform, place to place, and user to user. And our newest product, Mux Real-Time Video, really simplifies WebRTC and many-to-many interactions over video--it's really cool.

I'm Ed, and I'm a senior eng on the DevEx team here. This is a pretty good place to be, IMO. There is a real and concerted focus on not just competence but on the human side of things; one of the company's core values is "be human" and I thought it was marketing stuff 'til I joined and learned to my surprise that it is emphatically not. The onboarding experience is comprehensive and pleasant and it gets a lot of positive feedback from new folks, too.

Mux runs a multi-cloud environment using Kubernetes on AWS and GCP, with Elixir, Golang, and some NodeJS (some JS, mostly TypeScript), plus React and TypeScript for all the usual bells and whistles.

If video is your thing--or even it just sounds interesting and you'd like to explore it!--you should check us out. At the moment our hiring is limited to the US, Canada, and the UK, but the company is fully remote; I'm in Boston and I don't feel disconnected compared to the SF folks. Feel free to head on over to and check out our openings; we run a pretty standard interview-loop process and I don't feel like we waste candidates' time. (We've hired multiple people from HN Who's Hiring threads, too.) Even if you don't see an immediate spot that clicks with you, feel free to reach out regardless!

We minimize the amount of thinking, reading, and clicking our developers need to do and are looking for engineers with high integrity, low ego, and an insatiable drive to learn.

Your team will be focused on building autonomous systems for some of the company's most important initiatives. Domain experience isn't required, but we're looking for strong backend devs.

If you have hesitations (ethical, cultural, compensation, or otherwise) about working in national security, feel free to ping me (kelvin), at <my_name> at I'm not on the team that's hiring, but I can talk to you about RD and why I joined.

Census | San Francisco or Remote (Core Hours are Pacific Time) | Full-Time, REMOTE OK, Can Sponsor Visa |

Apply here: | Ask me anything: [email protected]

We started Census in 2018 to give our users a way to power every SaaS application from a single source of truth - your own data warehouse. Customers use Census to define one unified view over their entire business (their customers, assets, financials, application data, whatever) in SQL or dbt and then "publish" that view to every single SaaS application they use: Salesforce, Zendesk, Marketo, Stripe, and a couple of dozen more.

In the process we have created a brand new category in the modern data stack, "Reverse ETL", and we are building a data engine that can sync "anything-to-anything" in a safe, durable, and high-throughput way. We're both proud and humbled to have the fastest growing software companies in the world as customers, and we are building a world-class team to serve them.

Porter (YC S20) | Full Time | Full-Stack Engineer | NYC |

Hey HN, I'm Alexander, co-founder of Porter. We're building Heroku in your own cloud. We let users link up their own AWS/GCP, point to the code they want to run, and then put the rest of the hosting process on autopilot (CI/CD, SSL, autoscaling, zero downtime deploys, infra monitoring, etc).

We're hiring NYC-based engineers that are passionate about building tools for developers. If you have some experience with either Typescript or Go, or you're very interested in this space, we'd love to talk with you. As we're a fast-growing seed-stage startup, you should be comfortable with regularly shifting priorities and iterating at a very high (daily) velocity.

Some of the technical challenges we face:

* Abstracting Kubernetes - any PaaS spans a variety of use cases, so building a consistent and useful layer of abstraction requires constant awareness of the needs of many user profiles.

* Cloud Agnosticism - one of Porter's main benefits is that you get the same interface for managing services regardless of where you host. Our job is to reduce multi-cloud infrastructure complexity to a unified interface.

* Auto-Generated Frontend - each of our app/add-on templates uses a form.yaml file that programmatically generates a settings UI on the dashboard using a library of our own input primitives. Designing, expanding, and testing the functionality of these templates is non-trivial.

If this interests you, please apply by sending an email to jobs [at] porter [dot] run or applying through

Qube Cinema - REMOTE / INDIA

We serve the movie industry at Qube. Once a movie is made and mastered it’s a 300GB stack of encrypted files, and the product that I work on sends that movie to thousands of theatres all over the world. Over physical hard drive copies, satellites and broadband downloads (ask me what our bandwidth bill is when you interview). Multiply that for many movies each week and trailers and ads as well.

Then we use asymmetric key infra like HSMs to securely receive and re-encrypt the movie’s keys targeted at each specific device that’s playing the movie. All done so not even we ourselves can compromise or decrypt the movies we’re sending.

We also design and make the servers that play the movies themselves; along with more public facing systems like high volume ticket booking, box office systems and movie databases.

Our tech stack is Go and React, with a little bit of Java, Ruby/Rails and Node. Databases are Postgres and Redis, with lots of AWS services like SQS+SNS, S3 etc.

I posted a couple months ago and wanted to apologise to everyone who applied from outside India - we’re not equipped legally to hire globally just yet.

Simple no-bullshit work-from-home culture with good work life balance - we’ll set OKRs periodically and you’ll be left in peace on work with weekly checkins, with the option to ask for help at any time. We do have an on-call rotation, since thousands of theatres stop working if we go down, but we jealously guard our time to make sure we only stay up late or work weekends in real emergencies.

Many of us have kids and families, and we respect each other’s time and boundaries. We also have an almost even gender ratio and don’t discriminate on any basis, although written and spoken English is necessary to work effectively.

Seeds is like blockchain mutual aid. Our community has helped people in need in 29 countries to date.

Anyone can redeem a SEED to ask for help. "Redeeming" a SEED consists of sending it to a designated wallet address and completing a simple web form. Those who give to the need receive SEEDS cryptocurrency (an ERC-20) in thanks, at market value at the time of their gift.

For example, you could redeem a SEED to ask for $5000 when money is tight. If I give $25 to your need, I receive $25 in SEEDS in thanks, per the market value when I give. This way, if and when SEEDS go up in market value, it's the generous people who build wealth.

We have recurring giving options with larger SEEDS rewards as well, and SEEDS trade exclusively on DeFi platforms.

Full job posting is here:

If you're interested in creating a bigger pie for all through giving, would love to hear from you!

Assuming it's okay to post about our mutual aid crypto project, which went through Techstars and Boost, rather than YC:

Seeds ( is a social good blockchain tool working to build abundance for all through giving.

Anyone can redeem a SEED, our ERC-20, to ask for monetary help. "Redeeming a SEED" constitutes sending it to a designated wallet address and completing a simple web form. All who give toward the need receive SEEDS in thanks.

For example, say someone redeems a SEED to ask for $1000 to cover rent. If you gave $25 to that need, you'd receive $25 in SEEDS in thanks, at market price (per Uniswap) at the time of your gift.

If and when the $1000 is sourced, it is transferred to the requester in SEEDS at requisite market price. Recurring giving options for larger SEEDS rewards are available as well.

The idea is that we want the giving people to be the ones who build wealth when crypto goes up, because then they'll have more resourcing to keep improving this world.

We're seeking a super smart, creative, kind full-stack engineer, ideally with experience using React, Node and Solidity.

API Debt Facility as a Service for Fintech Lenders | Founding team members | London, UK

I am launching an API-first debt facility as a service for fintech lenders to enable fintechs to borrow funds to lend to their users in real time without ever needing to raise an external debt facility from private debt funds or banks. The concept builds on top of "Banking as a Service" platforms that allow fintechs to create and manage banking accounts and credit cards on behalf of their users.

The offering has been well received among fintechs in London (consumer loans, BNPL, car financing, invoice financing) and early stage VCs in the UK/US. I am now looking to bring on board talented founding team members to build (software, data & analytics) and sell the first iteration of the product. Keen to speak to highly talented individuals that are able to wear many hats and bring new ideas to the table. Get in touch to learn more:

Intuit | Mountain View, CA or San Diego, CA or Remote | Onsite | Remote OK |

The platform teams at Intuit in Mountain View and San Diego are building the Intuit Kubernetes Service. We open sourced this work at and operate a large constellation of clusters running this code. An Istio-based service mesh is layered on top and is integrated with our own high-performance ingress solution. This infrastructure runs the financial software serving more than 100 million customers worldwide - providing them with critical services like accounting, payroll, money movement etc. All of these infra components (k8s, nodes, mesh, ingress) are really difficult to configure, upgrade, and manage. So we are building another layer (think OAM) to abstract it all and turn Kubernetes, Mesh, and Ingress into an implementation detail. Developers have loved this new platform so far. We continue to push the boundaries of cloud-native tech. We do this in open source and donate to the CNCF. We want to make Kubernetes and mesh easy for anyone in the world to use. We need your help with this! Apply here: or reach out directly (see profile).

VPD | Remote | UK | Full-time | Full Stack Engineer | £70,000 - £90,000+

We’re a well-funded scaleup (no VC money) with big plans to revolutionise legal pricing: our software aims to bring an end to law firms overcharging clients, arbitrary pricing, and other bad practices that have existed for years.

Our two directors are recognised world authorities in this domain, and bring a number of signed firms ready to use our software. We've successfully onboarded one of the world's largest legal teams and we're now busy deploying to some of the top law firms, in the UK and abroad.

Our fully-remote dev team is small, and therefore you’ll have a lot of opportunity to make a noticeable impact, especially given the extremely flat hierarchy.

Our whole team is friendly, down-to-earth, and operates without ego. We think you’ll enjoy working with us, and we’re looking for similarly-minded folks.

The work is varied, challenging, and will be quite evenly split across the front and back end. Because of the need to get scheduled features out, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded firms, we’re looking for a seasoned React pro (hard requirement) who is also comfortable with Node.js, TypeORM (or similar), GraphQL,

A bonus would be if you’ve had any prior experience with Ant Design (our UI framework of choice), Storybook, CircleCI, Heroku, Jira, and any client support ticket work.

In summary, we’re looking for a versatile, full stack developer who (after a short period of learning the ropes on our specific setup) can hit the ground running and contribute to our fast-growing product and team.

If this sounds cool to you, email our person handling applicants at: vittoria at vpd dot law

AidKit | Remote | Full-time |

AidKit is the engine that non-profits and governments trust to deliver direct cash assistance to those in need. We build & operate the social safety net for people who slip through the "official" ones. We replace convoluted workflows of glued together spreadsheets, bank portals and human tedium with one unified platform to allow organizations that do good to do so faster and more effectively.

Since starting amidst the pandemic, we've distributed over $50M to tens of thousands in hard to reach populations (the undocumented, unhoused, refugees, etc) and are on track to double this over the next year. We're currently running some of the largest guaranteed income programs in the United States.

We're looking for an experienced all-around engineer (frontend & backend) who cares about our mission to bring good software to doing good. You'll work (with me!) as part of our small tech team to make sure our systems stay healthy under massive surges of interest in programs that we run (we went from 0 to ~1000 requests per second in a matter of minutes recently). Our stack is mostly Typescript and Postgres (with some Python that we're deprecating).

We pay everyone in the company $120k and would pay you the same + equity. We're bootstrapped and profitable.

AppLand - Ruby Internals Expert - FT (preferred) or contract - Remote [USA / CAN / EU / UK]

AppMap is one of the world’s leading Autonomous Software Development tools. Thousands of developers already use AppMaps to visualize complex applications and automatically find issues that human code reviewers cannot spot.

AppMap provides the missing data within the software development lifecycle, delivering immediate feedback to developers in their editors that, until now, was only available after deploying to production.

AppMap supports many languages, including Ruby. Our integration hooks into the Ruby VM to record application interactions and functions, and must always do so without affecting its behavior, integrity, or performance. We are growing our Ruby team, and so we need more Ruby experts to help!

There are thousands of Ruby programmers in the world today. But here at AppLand, we’re not looking for any normal Ruby engineer. We need someone who is an expert on the internals of Ruby and how it is interpreted and executed at runtime. Someone who knows the difference between YARV and MRI. Someone who has a commit history within the Ruby core. Someone who has worked on profilers, tracers, or debuggers. Someone who enjoys the world of bytecode as much as they do writing an elegant Rails app.

If you’re that person, please get in touch at [email protected] When you write to us, please tell us about the thing that you love (or hate!) most about the internal architecture of Ruby’s implementation.

Comm | engineering | NYC onsite |

We're a startup based in NYC working on a decentralized, self-hosted messaging platform for communities based on federated keyservers.

Our long-term goal is to build an alternative to the centralized application server model that dominates Web2. We’re looking to hire a designer and several engineers. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance, 401K match, on-site lunches, free MacBook Pro, and great team culture. Compensation is very competitive, especially for a startup.

We recently signed the term sheet for our $5m seed round led by CoinFund, which will bring our total funding up to $7m. We've previously raised from over 60 investors, including VC firms such as Slow Ventures, Electric Capital, Eniac Ventures, and scouts from Sequoia, Lightspeed, Index, and others.

We have a very strong team of 10 devs actively contributing to our codebase, including 5 here in NYC. Our tech stack includes modern React, React Native, C++, Rust, and AWS.

Linking Realities | Mid/Senior Back-End Software Enineer | Barcelona or Europe Remote |

At Linking Realities, we offer an API that allows our users to generate their own 3D avatars from 2D selfies with low poly count that can be used in multiuser platforms. For this role, we are looking for a talented engineer that can help us continue improving this API to meet the requirements of our users.

Its main functionality is to generate 3D avatars using a set of 3D tools and to manage the data access layer so the avatars can be stored and retrieved. It’s written in Python using the FastAPI framework, and the avatars are stored in our cloud provider object store.

Our immediate objectives are improving the API so it can scale (e.g. offloading the generation of the avatars to a pool of workers), making the architecture more secure and robust and work on other integrations.

In addition, although not direct responsibilities of this position, we are also working on improving the avatar generation process to generate other types of avatars. This involves applying computer vision techniques, based on AI models, to parse the user selfie and extract features that allow us to generate avatars with different styles, plus the usage of 3D tools to build the full-bodied avatar. Working on the API will be tightly coupled to the avatar generation, so there will be opportunities to collaborate with this process.
